Hello My Name Is...
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome you to Kindergarten! This is going to be a very busy and exciting year for your child in Reading, Writing, and Math, and I am anticipating a year full of discovery and learning! During the first couple weeks of Kindergarten, we work on building a classroom community. I am asking that your child bring in a “Me Bag”. This “Me Bag” should consist of 5 items that would represent them and their interests. Items should be no bigger than those that can fit into a brown paper lunch bag.
Communication between parents and teacher is also a very important part of Kindergarten, and your child’s learning. To keep the lines of communication open, I am asking that you send your child to school each day with a two pocket folder so that all notices will get home to you. This will ensure that you are updated on events, and important information within the school.
Below is some information that I believe will help you in getting accustomed to Munger Hill School so that we have a great year together!
Drop Off & Pick Up
Drop off in the morning is anytime between 8:45 and 8:55. Kindergartners should be dropped off between these times at the Kindergarten entrance by the playscape.
Pick up at the end of the day is 3:00. Kindergarten walkers should be picked up at the back door to our classroom for dismissal.
Just a reminder…there is NO parking in the circle in front of the school during these times. It is very busy for arrivals and dismissals, and this area is for buses only.
Also, please keep in mind that if you are visiting the school for any reason you MUST report to the office first to sign in and get a visitor’s badge.
Each day our class will be having an afternoon snack. We eat lunch at 11:50, and it’s a long afternoon for some in which their tummies will be rumbling so I ask that you send your child into school with a healthy snack and drink each day. Please make sure that you send your child’s snack in a designated snack bag, separate from their lunch, and labeled with his/her name.
The price of hot lunch (milk included) is $2.30. The cost of milk is $.45. You can send lunch/milk $ in at the beginning of the week for the entire week or daily.
In the event that your child is ill, the Westfield Public Schools policy is that if your child has a fever, they cannot return to school until 24 hours have passed fever free. If your child had been diagnosed with strep throat or pink eye, they cannot return for a full 48 hours being on antibiotics. Also a note must be sent in with your child when he/she returns to school. I do ask that you follow these guidelines as best as you can in order to keep the other children in class healthy.
Notes must be sent in if there is any change in the way that your child is getting dismissed, or if he/she will be absent or late on a specific day or again returning from an absence. Also, if your child is a walker and wants to go home on a bus of another student they will not be able to do so. Only bus students can go on other buses if needed.
If it is your child’s birthday, please feel free to send in a tangible treat (stickers, pencils, etc.). Food is no longer allowed at these celebrations because of food allergies. At the end of the year, we will have a special day to celebrate our summer birthdays too!
I thank you all in advance for all of your help/support throughout the school year, and I look forward to working with all of your wonderful children! If you need to contact me regarding any questions or concerns, please feel free to do so at any time by sending in a note or call the school at 572-6520.
